For Those Who Need Healing
Many have prayed, waited, wondered, and quietly asked, “Does God still heal today?”
The good news is that Jesus Christ is still the Great Physician. He is the savior of our soul and the healer of our bodies. Healing proceeds from Jesus. Healing flows from the heart of God, because Jesus came to reveal the Father’s goodness and destroy the works of the devil.
The Bible says, “He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions” (Psalm 107:20). John tells us that Jesus Himself is the Word made flesh. So when God sent His Word, He sent more than a message; He sent His Son. Jesus came to save, deliver, and heal.
When Jesus ministered on the earth, healing was not a side issue. Matthew writes, “They brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick” (Matthew 8:16). Then Matthew explains: “That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses” (Matthew 8:17).
That is not merely poetry for heaven someday. It is good news for hurting people now.
Isaiah had prophesied of Christ, “Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows… and with his stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:4–5). Peter, looking back to the cross, said, “by whose stripes ye were healed” (1 Peter 2:24). The cross of Jesus Christ reaches the whole person. He forgives sin. He gives peace. He restores the soul. And yes, He is able to heal our bodies.
We do not condemn those who are sick. We do not pretend pain is not real. Faith is not denial. Faith is confidence in God’s Word while we are facing real trouble. Psalm 34:19 says, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.”
In Acts 10:38, Peter preached “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil.” Jesus went about doing good. Sickness is not good, it is bad. God has nothing bad to give and sickness is a bad thing, not a good thing. James 1:17 says, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above.” Jesus is the giver of life, not the author of destruction.
If you are hurting today, there is hope in Jesus Christ. He sees the pain you carry, the fear you have battled, and the questions you may not know how to ask. He is not only able to forgive sin; He is able to heal your body and make you whole. The same Jesus who opened blind eyes, cleansed lepers, and lifted the broken is still healing people today. Come to Him. Bring Him your sickness, your problems, your sin, and your heart.
So what should a person do who needs healing?
Look to Jesus. Bring Him your pain honestly. You do not have to dress it up. You do not have to pretend to be strong. The woman with the issue of blood said within herself, “If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole” (Matthew 9:21). She pressed through the crowd, touched Jesus, and received healing. Her faith had a voice before it had a victory.
Second, begin speaking God’s Word over your life. Words matter. Proverbs says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue” (Proverbs 18:21). Psalm 91 begins, “I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.” Do not let sickness have the final word. Let God’s Word have the final word.
Say what God says. “The LORD is my strength.” “By His stripes I was healed.” “Jesus is my healer.” “My body belongs to God.” “The Lord is with me in trouble, and He will deliver me.”
Third, keep your heart open to the whole gospel. Jesus does not merely offer temporary relief. He offers eternal life. He is the Savior, the Lord, the Redeemer, and the Great Physician. If you are thirsty for God, come to Him. If you are weary, come to Him. If you need forgiveness, come to Him. If you need healing, come to Him.
The invitation of Jesus still stands: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
The dinner bell is ringing. There is healing in the gospel. There is mercy in Jesus Christ. There is life in His Word. Come to Jesus. Come to the Great Physician, believe His promise, and let your mouth agree with His healing Word.
